Lockdown survival guide!

Hey,
Hope everyone’s safe and healthy!

Although we can no longer go to pubs, bars, friends’ flats/ houses, this doesn’t mean the fun has to stop! We’ve put together a few ideas of themed nights, activities and Netflix recommendations to keep you and your housemates entertained during lockdown.

THEMED NIGHTS!

BINGO LINGO LOCKDOWN EDITION

This is a great way to get everyone together. To make sure things run smoothly, its best to designate a bingo caller! This is a prestigious position with HUGE RESPOSBILITY so make sure you fight for the privilege. It’s your game so decide on what your range of numbers will be, but it’s probably best to choose between 1-100 so you aren’t playing all night long! There’s lots of bingo tickets available to print out online or you can simply make your own!

Use a random number generator to draw the numbers out and you are good to go! Spice the game up by adding some booze and sweets for prizes.

Halloween
Although 2020 has been terrifying enough, it’s still fun to celebrate Halloween! Dust off your best costumes and dress your student house with spooky decorations! Tip: If you opt for a full costume aka Casper the Ghost, at least you’ll have your face mask sorted! To get your creative juices flowing, have a house pumpkin carving competition. Now is the time to major flex your carving skills...

Don’t forget to DM us your pumpkin pics! (@moove_n_groove)

PAMPER PARTY

Make the best of a bad situation by all getting cosy in your PJ’s and treating yourselves to a night full of pampering. We’re talking the whole shebang: hair masks, face masks and nail painting which will leave you feeling super relaxed and looking amazing. To uplift your mood even further, why not put on a classic rom-com like Bridget Jones, The Holiday or How to Lose a Guy in Ten Days!

SAD DAYS:

Having a bad day and need a pickup? Nothing will make you feel better than a good laugh. Try the comedy films Step Brothers’or White Chicks’, or if you’re in a binge-watch mood, trythe series featuring Jack Whitehall as a uni student, Fresh Meat’ -it’s concerningly relatable! (type comedies into the Netflix search bar for more inspo!)

BORING DAYS:

Sometimes during Lockdown, we can feel disconnected from the world and need to somehow feed our brains. A documentary can be a great way to chill and learn something new and interesting, I recommend David Attenborough’s ‘A Life on This Planet’,which follows the progression of climate change through this national treasure’s life. Looking for something more offbeat?‘Dark Tourist’,follows journalist David Farrier around some of the world’s strangest tourist destinations, including vampire cults, Chernobyl and voodoo events - trust me it just gets weirder and creepier.

PRODUCTIVE DAYS:

Managed to get on a Zoom seminar with your dodgy WiFi connection? Reward yourself with a gripping film like Zodiac’,based on a true crime story, Zodiac will get you on the edge of your seat as you try to work out who he is. Alternatively, award-winning‘The Revenant’,stars Leonardo DiCaprio - need I say anymore??

DRINKING/ SPORTS:

Staying in shape

If like me you have been getting into a routine at the gym, these next 2 and a half weeks will be EXTRA hard to deal with knowing that us active students will need to improvise and think of creative ways to keep fit. Naturally, the temptation will be there to neglect exercise during this period, but it’s well worth using exercise as an opportunity to not only keep fit, but to maintain your sanity during this boring period!

Making the most of Bute park:

Bute park is not only a great location for a casual walk, but it offers a fitness trail around the park with various exercise stations including: push-up, hyperextension bench, parallel bars, dip station, leg lift and other stations. I usually go for a run in the park and make use of a few of these areas.

If running isn’t for you then another good way to stay active, could be renting a nextbike from one of the main drop-off points around Cardiff. These bikes can be rented at a relatively cheap tariff (charged by the minute), and can be great fun if wanting to go for a ride with your friends.

Want to workout from home?

Whilst there are many apps which offer workouts and food plans, you can often save yourself from spending any money at all by using the workouts online -Youtube offers a whole array of videos often posted by PT’s, and you can find sessions for practically all parts of the body. Most effective are the short intense training videos working areas like your core - Chloe Ting and Fraser Wilson are two names that come to mind. FEEL THE BURN!

Drinking Games, why not?

Psych:Psych is a mobile drinking game where each round there is a question on one of the individuals in the group, and the answer with the most votes wins. You’ll all need the app to play. This game is a right laugh and can bring you and your mates together. Be prepared to get roasted...

Piccolo: Another mobile drinking game which can bring a lot of joy to your sesh is Piccolo, there are questions for different genders and dishes out dares for the individual which are sure to get you giggling.
