Lights, lights lights!

Stuck for inspiration on how to decorate your university room?

Well, look no further, these ideas should have you covered!

You can thank us later xx

For many students, the blank walls in the small box room can feel extremely daunting and empty. While this feeling is so normal, it doesn’t have to stay this way.

Your uni room is where the fun can really start. It’s your opportunity to FINALLY decorate your bedroom exactly how you want and find your ‘vibe’. Kiss GOODBYE to the Marvel/ Princess duvet covers and posters you’ve had since you were 10. Say HELLO to student chic!

Here’s our guide to help your room feel as homely and fun as possible…without breaking the bank.

1.Comfort is key…

Choosing a duvet set which is cosy and reminds you of home is an essential as it’ll be your main source of comfort during the first term. Don’t be afraid to pick bedding which is pretty ‘out there’ and reflects your personality. It can make a great icebreaker conversation with a friend who comes to visit your new room or at pre drinks.

Tip: We suggest getting a double duvet even for a single bed as this makes it even more snuggly!

If you’re feeling extra fancy, add a fluffy blanket and extra pillows. This will create the perfect hangover space for you and your friends. Deliveroo anyone?!

You can get some gorgeous, yet affordable bedding from Primark and H&M.

2. Lights, lights, lights!

When it comes to lighting, there’s no such thing as going “overboard”. Fairy lights and mood lights are bona fide uni essentials to create a snug feel. They’re also great for when you need to create that ambiance for those ‘Netflix and chill’ occasions. Small word of warning, check with your accommodation rules for lights, as battery operated may be more suitable than plug in. Amazon offer super cheap, but good quality ones.

3.Cover the walls with your favourite photos:

This is such an easy way to personalize your room. Whether this be photos of family, friends, or more importantly, your dog, having photos you love on your wall will be sure to make you smile whenever you’re feeling homesick.

Not allowed to put blue tack or nails on your wall? No problem. ‘Command Strips’ allow you to stick your photos or other wall hangings without pulling the paint off.

You can buy these for around £6 on Amazon.

Game. Changer.

4.Spice things up with a rug…

If you’re really feeling extra crazy, a funky rug from Ikea or H&M will be sure to add a pop of colour to your room. Sure, you’ll get an eyeroll from other flatmates when you rock up holding a rug, but when they see how good it looks, they’ll be jealous they didn’t think to bring one too. Did someone say interior designer?

5. Become a real (or fake!) plant parent…

House plants will make even the bleakest of room seem brighter and fresher. Believe it or not, they also come with many health benefits such as ‘boosting productivity, concentration and creativity’ as well ‘cleaning indoor air’. It seems you really can have it all.

If you think you may forget to water your babies, Aloe Vera and Cacti are good ones to consider as they require little maintenance. Yet still, perhaps best to play it safe and get fake ones instead! Flying Tiger, Ikea and Urban outfitters have a great selection!

6. Get that motivation boost with an inspo/ mood/ deadline board:

This is a must have to make sure you stay organised! As well as putting your deadline list on there, you can also put motivational quotes, to do lists and things you love. Plus, it makes you look like you have your shit together and aren’t just spending every day dying from a hangover. Etsy, The Range, TX Max have great ones.

7. Storage Saviours…

It’s well known there isn’t enough storage in uni halls. So, rather than shoving everything into those tiny cupboards, use storage boxes! These can be bought cheaply from Wilko’s, The Range or TK Max which come in an array of colours and sizes. You know what they say, a tidy room makes a tidy mind…

8. Open door = open to conversation!

Last but not by any means least, a doorstop. This is an essential right from the first day of uni, until the very last as it makes you look welcoming and sociable.

So, without further ado, prop your door open and show everyone inside your MTV Crib…🐮😎
